Good Monday morning to you all! We had a really busy family weekend, but I did manage to get some crafty time in last night. I had a couple of requests to see my card sketches, and while I am not sure how to make them look all fancy by designing them on the computer, I am more than willing to share the way I do mine.
I purchased a couple of hardcover, 4x5 inch spiral sketchbooks. I like this size because I can have one on my desk, one in my purse, and one on the coffee table. You can decorate the covers if you would like, but I left mine like I bought them. I told you, nothing fancy. Now, here is where the extremely technical part comes in. I made a 2x3 template and traced it on the front and back of each page. I did this while I was watching a movie with my family. I like having a perfect square or rectangle to work with. It makes the rest of the designing easier to do, at least for me. And that's it. I usually sketch while watching tv or waiting at appts. or other things like that. And I do sketch about 97% of what I create before I start a project. Sometimes the design works and sometimes it doesn't. Can't win them all!
So, below is a look at today's sketch.
And here is the card I made using it. Not quite the same, is it? I had the papers that I wanted to use out on my desk, I sketched what I thought would work, and when I started to put it together, the Polaroid squares were to big to include four, so I improvised. I like the finished card better than the sketch anyway. Funny how that happens.
Well, there you have it. I can share my sketches when I post my cards if you would like. Just leave me a comment letting me know if this is something you would be interested in.
Have a great week!
Dani

oh, its so fun seeing your sketch and then the finished card :)
Glad I'm not the only one who sketches while they watch tv! Great card! Love Penny Scrap-aholic.blogspot.com
Cute card! Great idea to sketch your own design 1st. I love the cute lacy ribbon and the sewing.
I love sketches, and I always love seeing the process that goes into creating a layout or card :)
Yours is so pretty! I really like the polaroid with that sweet little trim underneath!
I am not a fancy sketch maker either. In the past, I have always drawn them. But when I worked for Scrapgal, I learned how to do them in Microsoft word. It wasn't a cute looking sketch though like you see around these days :)
Most days I just reach for my little notebook :)
I love the card! I love how you worked off the sketch and changed it up a little bit! I have such trouble with editing sketches to work with what I have!
Thanks you for sharing...I love hand done things...I like that you actually sketch in a book!
Sometimes I just get overwhelmed with all the techy stuff that I need to learn...I just enjoy doing things the old fashioned way!
i have my sketch pad in my book bag and i just made one today at school!!
great job
Love the card!!
Beautiful card, just love it!! Pop over to my blog I have a little gift for you, Hugs May x x x
I love the idea of using a template on each page of your sketchbook! Great idea :) I always work better from a sketch with my cards, or layouts, too. Love the way your card turned out!!
Love both the card and the sketch!! Please do keep them coming!!
Lovely card and I love your sketch book! I really need to write sometimes, by hand, not on the computer. I think differently when I hold a pencil in my hand.
Love both your sketch and your card.
Love that flower :)
I used to draw my own sketches, and also started with my template for the main shape.
I would love to see your sketches and what you made out of them :)
Lovely card Danielle I like your style of crafting
Hugs Elaine
