WOYWW 165

Be warned! What you are about to see is not the norm for me. You see, my desk this week is at the sewing machine. Now you might ask, why is this not normal for me. I am always sewing on paper. Actually, that was the reason that I bought this machine. But today, gasp, I am actually sewing on fabric!!!

Yes, you heard correctly, fabric. I am working on some teething worms for my beautiful, little niece.

What are teething worms you ask? They were first made by my children's great-grandmother when they started to teethed. It is easy for them to hold, they can bite and suck on the ends, and the fabric, well, not to be gross but it soaks up the excess drool and helps to keep their clothes dry. They can easily be tossed in the washer and my kids LOVED them. My sister asked me if I could make a few for Sophia, and of course I would do anything for either one of them, so here I am tonight at the machine.

*NOTE: The teething worms are filled with cotton batting as the cotton is very absorbent.

And last week, a few of you asked what that pointy thing on my desk was. It is a tube turner. I am not quite sure the picture shows it well enough, but basically you use it to turn tubes right side out. I also have used one for threading elastic through casings.

Well, that is it for this installment of WOYWW. Hop on over to the Stamping Ground to see more desks from around the world.

Thanks for your visit!

Dani

Great idea for the "Worms". I remember those days of the fronts of their clothing damp with drool. I had a ton of pretty bibs but the dampness still crept through.

I have one of those tube turners too. I never did a ton of sewing but it was for some craft need...I am sure...teehee

She will love them, I'm sure. Teething is no fun, for Mom or kid so anything that eases the way is sure to be much appreciated. And such pretty material too!

My eldest daughter used to live on rusks, but your worms would have saved me heaps of money and mess! She's nearly 21 now, so it's a bit late. Great idea. I like your pulling through thingy.
Have a great week.

Great idea for those fabric worms Dani, love the bright colours too. I subscribe to CardMaker, makes it easier each issue, but I got a heck of a deal through Discount Mags online. Normally $39.99 for two years, I had a coupon code and got a two yr sub for $22.99!

Nice! I am always impressed by anyone who can sew. I took sewing in Home Ec in school, way back when, and got a "D" on my project!! - I think the only reason I didn't fail was the the teacher felt sorry for me.

Teething worms are new to me too. I just sewed some draping binding on some store bought valances to make them work with my existing rods, it was fun to use faric again, lol. I bet my machine was in shock.

This is new to me and how stinkin' clever this is, Dani! I'm sure we can come up with a more adorable name than "worms," however! I'm also sure that you could sell these in stores!! "Baby Noodles?" or "Teething Tubes?" Ernt, maybe not "tubes," but "noodles" is cute. You go for it, just copyright the name to me, design to you. And you keep all the money for having a great-great-gramma who was so brilliant and for keeping up the fab tradition!

Thanks for coming to visit me earlier and have a great week! Darnell #34

Hi there Danielle, ah what an instructive post his is love the teething worms and we sued a number of threads sewn together at the end of tube to pull it through so guess that is the same principal. :D Thanks so much for popping over and thanks for sharing ~ happy WOYWW! Shaz in Oz. x #43

This is certainly a different post and I can actually say I have learnt something today. I am not a sewing person. Great colors in the material.

Happy crafting.

Teething worms are ingenious! Good thing you had a sewing machine lol. 20 years ago, I had to buy a blow dryer to do something crafty, forget what that was though, heat embossing before heat embossing guns? Happy belated WOYWW and thanks for visiting! #23

That's a really handy gadget - I always sewed a length of cord into one end and then pulled it through the tube to turn it the right way round - your tube turner sounds a much simpler method. Never heard of teething worms but it sounds a great idea. Hope you are enjoying the weekend. Elizabeth x #63
